This week, we're looking at the jolting numbers from the June Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, Gen Z's call to neurodiversity, and how to manage distractions in an always-on world of work.
What Caught Our Eye This Week
More JOLTS. In June, U.S. job openings surpassed the 10 million mark for the first time. Unemployment rates continued to decrease. Voluntary turnover rose to nearly match April's record-setting rate. And openings/unemployed person hit 1.05. (CBS)
A new DEI mindset. For Gen Z, diversity isn't a nice-to-have; it's a must. In a recent survey, 99% reported workplace DEI as important to them. And 80% evaluate potential employers based on how well they embrace neurodiversity. (HR Dive)
Post-pandemic payroll. Most underestimate the role payroll plays in employee experience (and brand reputation). Inflexible systems are likely hurting recruiting and retention efforts as today's workforce demands on-demand pay. (Talent Culture)
Syncing expectations. As communication channels proliferate, so do distractions. The companies that see the promised efficiency of platforms like Slack and Zoom are the ones that standardize when and where to use each tool. (Fast Company)
Always on. Without defined physical spaces, digital workdays can feel endless — leading to increased output and burnout. Luckily, there are a few simple strategies managers can use to combat their team's fatigue while working from home. (HBR)
Our Recent Pieces
Mental health in the workplace is a tricky line to navigate, but it’s an issue that leaders can no longer ignore. That’s why we recently interviewed Kim LaMontagne, international speaker, corporate trainer, and author of It’s Ok to Not Be Ok.
Kim shared the responsibility leaders carry in an organization regarding mental health (hint: it doesn’t require becoming a counselor). And she detailed how leaders can start destigmatizing mental health conversations in their company. (Check it out)
