Over the last several newsletters, we've been highlighting top HR trends for 2023. This week, let's talk about how purpose ties to work outcomes. Did you know that nine out of ten employees would be willing to accept a pay cut in exchange for a more meaningful job? This is according to the report, Meaning and Purpose at Work, published by BetterUp in 2017. This astonishing statistic rang true even before the global pandemic hit when countless people reconsidered what was truly important to them. In fact, as found in a more recent McKinsey study, nearly two-thirds of US-based employees said that Covid has caused them to reflect on their purpose in life and have reconsidered the kind of work they do. Millennials were three times more likely than others to say they were re-evaluating work choices. The key takeaway here is that employers that help their employees make connections to purpose will enjoy a more highly engaged workforce, less attrition, and more passionate leaders.
